Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026

In shortTop Insurance helps UK customers find insurance quotes from insurers and brokers. We only ask for the details we need to run that search — things like your name, contact details, and vehicle information — and we pass them on to insurers and comparison partners solely so they can quote you. We never sell your data. You can ask us at any time to show you what we hold, correct it, or delete it, and you can withdraw consent for marketing or non-essential cookies whenever you like. Reach us at contact@topinsuranceuk.com with any request or question.

Top Insurance (“we”, “our”, “us”) matches UK customers with insurers and brokers by searching for quotes on their behalf. Protecting your personal data matters to us, and this policy sets out, in plain terms, what we collect, why, who it’s shared with, and the rights you have over it under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who We Are

Top Insurance Ltd is registered in the UK and trades from Suite - 235, Jhumat House, 160 London Road, Barking IG118BB (Opposite to TESCO EXTRA, Barking), United Kingdom. We search for car, van, and bike insurance quotes on your behalf — we don’t underwrite policies ourselves, so think of us as the go-between connecting you with the insurers who do. Any question about how we handle your data can go to our team at contact@topinsuranceuk.com.

What We Collect

We ask for only what’s needed to search for a quote on your behalf, and it all comes directly from you through our forms:

  • Who you are — your name, date of birth, and similar basic details.
  • How to reach you — email address and phone number, so we can send quotes and follow up.
  • Where you are — your postal address, used to match you with insurers that cover your area.
  • What you’re insuring — vehicle make, model, registration, and how it’s used.
  • Insurance history — anything else relevant to a quote, such as your driving or claims record.

We also pick up some non-personal technical data — browser type, IP address, general site usage — through cookies and analytics, covered below.

How We Use It

Everything we collect is used only for the purpose we told you about at the time:

  • Getting you quotes — the core reason we ask for your details in the first place.
  • Talking to you — replying to questions, confirming what you’ve requested, and sending quotes or updates by email or phone.
  • Making the service better — looking at aggregated, anonymised usage patterns to improve the site and how we search for quotes.
  • Marketing, only with your OK — if you’ve opted in, we might send offers or a newsletter. You can opt out whenever you like.

We rely mainly on two lawful bases: performing the service you’ve asked for (searching for quotes), and our legitimate interest in improving that service and, with consent, marketing to you. Whichever basis applies, we tell you plainly at the point we collect your data what it’s for and who might see it.

Legal Basis, in Detail

UK data protection law requires a lawful basis for everything we do with your data:

  • Performing our service — once you ask for a quote, processing your details is necessary to actually provide it.
  • Legitimate interests — keeping in touch with you and improving the site, balanced against your right to privacy.
  • Consent — for marketing emails and any cookies beyond the essential ones, we ask first.

We aim to always be upfront about what we’re collecting and why — the “right to be informed” that sits at the heart of UK GDPR.

Who We Share It With

Your data only goes to the third parties genuinely needed to get you a quote:

  • Insurers and brokers — the UK companies who actually generate your quote.
  • Comparison partners — services such as Confused.com that we work with to pull quotes together; your details are sent to them securely.
  • Service providers — things like our email and analytics providers, who process data strictly on our instructions.

We don’t sell your personal data, full stop. Every partner we share data with is expected to protect it properly, in line with ICO guidance, and we’ll only disclose information beyond this if the law requires it — never for marketing that has nothing to do with insurance quotes.

Cookies and Similar Technology

Our site uses cookies and comparable tools to work properly and to help us understand how it’s used:

  • Essential cookies — needed for the site to function (keeping a form filled in, for instance). No consent needed for these.
  • Analytics cookies — anonymised usage data (via Google Analytics) that helps us improve the site.
  • Marketing cookies — only ever set with your consent, where used.

In line with UK cookie law (PECR), we ask for your consent to anything beyond essential cookies the first time you visit. See our Cookie Policy for the details, adjust cookies any time in your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics directly.

How Long We Keep Data

We hold on to personal data only for as long as it’s actually needed:

  • While you’re actively getting quotes — for as long as you’re engaging with the process.
  • If you’ve opted into future offers — for as long as that consent stands.
  • Where the law requires it — e.g. financial records we’re obliged to retain.

As a general rule, if you go quiet on us we won’t hold on to your details for more than 6–12 months, unless you’ve specifically agreed to ongoing marketing. You can ask us to delete your data sooner at any point — see “Your Rights” below.

Your Rights

UK GDPR gives you a set of rights over your own data. In short, you can:

RightWhat it lets you do
AccessGet a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
CorrectionHave inaccurate or incomplete details fixed.
ErasureAsk us to delete your data where we no longer have a lawful reason to keep it.
ObjectionObject to certain uses of your data, such as direct marketing.
PortabilityReceive your data in a portable, machine-readable format, where applicable.
Withdraw consentPull back consent for anything we rely on it for — marketing, non-essential cookies — at any time.

To use any of these, email contact@topinsuranceuk.com. We respond within a month, as UK GDPR requires. The ICO’s own guidance on subject access and privacy rights has more background if you’d like it.

Keeping Your Data Secure

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect your data — encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure servers, firewalls, and regularly reviewed security practices. That said, no method of transmission over the internet is ever completely risk-free. If a data breach were ever to happen, we’d act in line with ICO guidance and notify anyone affected as required.

Other Websites

Our site sometimes links out to other websites — insurers or comparison platforms, for example. We’re not responsible for how those sites handle your data once you’ve left ours, so it’s worth checking their own privacy policies before you share anything with them.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy now and then — if the law changes, or our services do. We’ll post the revised version here with a new date, so it’s worth checking back occasionally.
